Programme Overview:
This rigorous, credit-bearing course provides a formal and systematic introduction to university-level physics, designed for students seeking a strong conceptual and analytical foundation in the discipline. The curriculum encompasses core principles of classical physics, including Newtonian mechanics and gravitation, thermodynamics, oscillations and waves, electricity and magnetism, and physical optics. The course emphasizes conceptual understanding alongside problem-solving techniques, requiring proficiency in algebra and trigonometry. Introductory calculus (differentiation and integration in single variable) will be applied where necessary.
Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this course, students should be able to:
- Describe and explain the fundamental physical principles
- Apply these principles, together with logical and mathematical reasoning, to situations of the physical world
- Analyse and solve problems with the aids of mathematics
- Acquire and interpret experimental data to examine the physical laws
