Academic Criteria:
– Level of Study: S.3-5 / Grade 9-11 / Year 10-12 students
– English Requirement: Applicants are expected to meet the English language proficiency requirement, with an IELTS score of 6.5 or an equivalent qualification.

Programme Dates: July 13 – July 17, 2026 (Monday to Friday)
Programme Time: 9:30 am – 5:00 pm (HKT)
Non-refundable Application Fee: HKD 100
Programme Fee: HKD 14,000
– For HKU Academy Members will receive an exclusive scholarship of HKD 4,000, which will be automatically deducted from the Programme Fee upon application.

Programme Overview:
This dynamic five-day workshop offers a blend of lectures and hands-on learning, focusing on the latest advancements in smart products—their development, applications, and real-world impact. Participants will explore cutting-edge digital technologies, including: 

  • Internet of Things (IoT) 
  • Mobile & Cloud Computing 
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Computer Vision 
  • Robotics 
  • 3D Modelling & Additive Manufacturing

Through interactive sessions, students will design, fabricate, and program functional smart product prototypes, gaining practical experience in integrating these technologies to enhance quality of life. The workshop also emphasises key principles and methodologies in smart product development, ensuring a strong theoretical foundation alongside technical skill. 

Beyond technical expertise, participants will refine essential soft skills, including effective communication, teamwork, and innovative thinking, preparing them for future challenges in the rapidly evolving tech landscape. 

Learning Objectives:

  1. Develop students’ understanding of the principles and methodology of using digital technologies for smart product development.   

  2. Immerse students’ minds in the fascinating world of engineering and technology from an early age. 

  3. Nurture students’ skills in personal communication, teamwork and innovation. 

Programme Rundown (Tentative):

Programme Instructors – Dr. Howard H.H. Cheung
Dr. H.H. Cheung obtained his B.Eng., M.Phil., and Ph.D. degrees at the University of Hong Kong. Prior to joining the University of Hong Kong, he has worked in manufacturing and IT industries as a consultant for a number of years.  He has gained substantial experiences in developing and managing RFID-based solutions, and the provision of consultancy services to implement RFID applications to various industries/enterprises. Dr. Cheung has also participated in a number of industrial application projects of RFID and IoT technologies, including RFID-based systems for product anti-counterfeiting, food processing management, manufacturing and logistics management of a global printing enterprise, governmental project for inventory management, and baggage management of a major international airport.

Travel and Medical Insurance:
All students need to have valid travel and medical insurance as a mandatory condition for participation in our programmes. We strongly recommend that students secure their insurance policies well in advance of their departure to ensure continuous coverage.

Students are highly encouraged to attend ALL classes on time for the duration of the Programme. Please note that according to the University’s attendance and absenteeism policy, at least 80% of the lectures and required classes for each curriculum must be attended.
