Where brilliance takes flight

A Digital Journey of the Humanities

Programme Overview

This one-week programme is meant to be a thorough introduction to the digital humanities, i.e., how one may leverage progress in digital technologies (such as natural language processing, AI, 3D-scanning, virtual reality etc.) to drive discovery in linguistics, music, literature, history etc. Throughout the lectures, participants will get acquainted with the key concepts and debates of the field, but also to various methods. Questions around human and machine creativity, but also ethical issues, will be among the discussed topics. A visit to a relevant institution in Hong Kong will help students connect scholarly investigations with how digital technologies shape our societies. Further, several hands-on activities will help shift from theory to practice. Students will in particular conduct a mini research project using tools from natural language processing, and will present their results during the final afternoon of the program.
