Cities on the Move

International Symposium on STEM Education 2018
21 - 24 June 2018 (Thu - Sun) at The University of Hong Kong.

Cities on the Move

One of the biggest society transformations of the 21st century is the rapidly shifting population demography in almost all major cities around the world (UN World Population Aging Report, 2015). And the shift takes the form of an unprecedented increase of the older people population while the birth rate consistently dwells in historical low. This change in population structure has direct impact on how our society will develop, and also dictates the kind of economy and services the society will need. On the other hand, another great force that is actively shaping our societies is the swift development of the digital technology in the recent decades. Such advancement in tech is often perceived as the 4th industrial revolution.
As city infrastructures and its inhabitants are more and more digitally equipped, we are always crossing back and forth the boundaries of real and virtual, online and offline. How will these two of the biggest transformative forces shape the future of our cities? Will we pick up even more speed as humans move along the information highway of the digital landscape?
With our knowledge in STEM, what kind of futures can we create for our CITIES ON THE MOVE? These are the pressing and exciting issues that we would like to explore with you this year.
