International Symposium on STEM Education is a flagship programme jointly organized by the HKU Academy for the Talented and the Microsoft Hong Kong. The STEM Symposium will be run virtually this year, that allows students to experience the latest trends in technology. Students will learn how to intersect and integrate disciplines to tackle global challenges or complex issues. We face an array of diverse and complex problems nowadays, solutions require us to take an interdisciplinary focus, with a good understanding and knowledge of different fields.
The symposium aims to inspire participants to think across disciplines as it is an important quality of a future global leader. Participants will attend lectures and workshops conducted by prominent HKU professors and leading business leaders. Also, with guidance from HKU project mentors and entrepreneur advisors, students will work in groups to design a new concept, product, service or solution in response to a current issue under one of the main themes: Education, Environment, Lifestyle and Global Health in order to tackle interconnected social problems and to achieve the goal of “Innovation and Transformation for a Better World”.
The event culminates in a group project presentation judged by academics and industry professionals. Participants will have a chance to receive scholarships offered by the Academy to attend programmes organized by the scheme or receive an internship opportunity offered by our partnered companies.
